Actually, now I recall it, the (tiny) club was called Patterns.
I suspect that's just coincidence, but I like coincidences.
I remember Mike saying they had sold out of the LUMP Y-fronts but there were a few T-shirts left. I got one, but it was almost immediately appropriated by my girlfriend. It does look much better on her though. :o)
Another big Lump fan here 🙋♀️ I'm also a creature of habit and crave routine, although luckily I haven't taken that into my parenting style with my 1 year old daughter, I'm instead embracing the just-roll-with-it attitude and it's very freeing. Thanks for these continually-wonderful essays, Laura, and hope you're feeling really well in your pregnancy.
P.S. Apologies for awkwardly stopping you to say hi in Dingle in December after your performance at Other Voices, I was starstruck to see you in person and stuttered out something stupid, but thanks for being so nice!
LUMP ... I've had to set restraints on my listening to only once a week. Looped woodwinds under Laura's psychoanalytical musings. More of that, pretty please!
I’m severely allergic to routine, and used to move my furniture around a lot, but now it’s more minor constant tinkering. The only routine I’ve managed to sustain is to drink 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning on an empty stomach, which is apparently really bad for you, so go me.
Am one of the 45. And rearrange my rooms all the time - plus outfits/personas - and feel it deeply when i do. So glad to read this. These posts are miraculous
Now to sink deeply into a chair and day dream then pick up the hostels broken guitar and function with the bottom three strings, just to find a home inside my voice a drift in this Brazilian sea. <3 Obrigada amiga for your inspirations now becoming a part of mine.
Now it’s more clearer where the lyric "I look at people here in this city and wonder if they're lonely or like me they're not content to live as things are meant to be" from the song When Were You Happy? comes from
As a Los Feliz resident, your description of the East LA lifestyle is all too accurate. I'm curious to know which cafe you frequented. (One small way I like to mix up my routine is in switching up where I get my morning coffee.)
Well i’m one of the lucky 45 that fell in love with Animal. LUMP is one of my favourite bands ✨🌿✨ This was a lovely piece!
Ditto. I was lucky enough to see LUMP in Brighton in '21.
Would love to hear 'Trilogy' when the time is right.

Oh that must’ve been great! I’ve only seen the few clips floating around u-tuub, and have been really impressed.

LUMP is an incredible project. I still listen incredibly often. So cool to know you made that costume!! Great read, thank you.

I have seen LUMP twice, and own both their albums in various formats. But I do need to listen to them more often.

This was brilliant! And I’m also amongst the 45 people who loooooved LUMP and went to Oslo (London) to a gig and loved the puppet! 😅

I see the numbers stacking up for LUMP & Animal. 2/5 of our household our fully signed up. Only 1 of those was under 10 at the time.
It seems most of the 45 Lump fans are here in the comment section, I'm another x
