Patterns in Repeat is now out in the world. The response has been overwhelming (in a good way). I feel so lucky and proud of everyone who worked on the record, particularly Dom Monks, who co-produced with me. We took a leap of faith together and were it not for his steady hand, this record may not have seen the light of day.
Anyway, thank you for listening -
Below is the demo version of what ended up being Caroline on the record, but before that, it had the working title of 'La la, something…Caroline?’. This recording was done minutes after writing it. I appear to have enjoyed playing it so much that I just carried right on and sang it again without stopping.
It was recorded on a Zoom H6 stereo and SM7. The nylon string seemed to be picked up very well by the stereo pair on the Zoom (which is really a field recorder) — I ended up using it on a few other recordings that made it onto the record. I thought Dom would find that appalling - but, well, he didn’t. If it sounds good, use it.
